Maine Homeowners: A Smarter Way to Fix Problem Pipes (Without Digging Up Your Yard)
When Mainers think of smart home technology, heat pumps, EV chargers, and energy-efficient upgrades usually come to mind. But some of the most exciting home innovations are happening underground, literally.
One of them is pipe patch technology, a trenchless solution that can repair damaged drain and sewer lines without tearing up your lawn, basement, or driveway.
At Dave’s World, we’re known for helping Mainers live more comfortably and efficiently. From heat pumps and smart panels to modern plumbing solutions, we’re proud to be Maine’s one-stop shop for modern home technology, and pipe patching is just one more way we’re helping customers avoid costly, disruptive repairs.
What Is Pipe Patching?
Pipe patching is a trenchless method that allows us to fix small problem areas in underground pipes, from the inside. We insert a fiberglass reinforced epoxy patch through an access point, inflate it over the damaged section, and let it cure in place. The result? A sealed, code-compliant repair that restores function without the need to dig.
We typically patch 4-inch diameter lines in 2-foot sections, though we can work with pipes between 2 and 6 inches in diameter, depending on accessibility. Before installing any patch, we perform a dry run to ensure the equipment can reach the repair site.
When It Works Best
Pipe patching is ideal for isolated issues like:
Root intrusion
Small holes
Offsets or shifted joints
Preventing recurring backups in a known trouble spot
In many cases, patching is a faster, more affordable alternative to excavation. And it’s incredibly strong; the fiberglass mat used in the patch is designed to last.
When Digging or Full Lining May Be Better
Not all pipe issues can be solved with a patch. If the damage is extensive, if multiple spots need repair, or if our equipment can’t access the location, a full dig or complete pipelining may be a better option.
We’ll always walk you through the options and help you choose the right solution for your home and budget.
